My Biggest Wedding Decision, Part 2

Ok so I left out of big part of this whole wedding cake thing. Here it goes, "Hi, my name's Jenn and I decorate cakes for a living."

And I am just crazy enough to think that I am going to be making my own wedding cake. I mean I'm the first to admit that I am going to have trouble relinquishing control over design and execution. Ugh!

So general consensus is that I should not be worrying myself with decorating my own cake the day before my wedding. But right now, 10 months away, I feel like I can totally conquer it. I'm trying to get on top of everything now so that I have time to make my cake the day before. However, I know my last couple days will probably be completely crazy so I guess I need to deal with reality.


Two of my coworkers have graciously offered to make the cake for me for free and I'll still get to design it exactly the way I want. That's really the only other option I'd consider. I'm not about to pay for something I can do myself.

I still really want to make the cake myself. Is/was there anything in your wedding that you insisted doing even though everyone warned you it'd be a mess? Maybe I'm the only crazy one!

    Can't you make it two or three days before the wedding? I was under the impression that fondant holds up for a while...

    I think making cakes is an amazing job :) I bet most people would think it's crazy to make your own wedding cake, but I actually think it's doable if you really want to. You'll have to miss out on a lot of the pre-wedding time with family and friends though. I'm interested to see what you decide to do.

    @ JD - If I decide to do a fondant cake I can do it one, maybe two days before.

    @Katerina - I think I really might. I would love to be able to conquer that challenge and decorating really relaxes me so hopefully I won't be stressed. I will miss family time but maybe they can come hang out with me while I decorate!

    I wanted to make our cake, but FI banned that idea cuz he sees how stressed I get when I am making a cake on a deadline
