It's a Glorious Day for a Drive!

Wouldn't you agree? No? Well too bad cause I'm sending a map your way anyways.

For those of you ladies who live in wedding blog load like me, I'm sure you've seen many awesome hand-drawn maps women are sending out to their wedding guests. Check these out:

Aren't they adorable? A definite must-have! So of course I decided I had to include one in my invitation suite (just because).

I started off by following a tutorial that suggested printing out a Google Map of the area. Then I traced the simple highways lines and roads to create my wedding map. However, after spending about an hour playing around with that technique, I decided I'm not a drawer so I moved on.

No I didn't give up. I DO NOT give up. I just moved on to a different method: my trusty Paint.net. Using the curved line tool I just drew the general shape of the highways I wanted to include on my map.

Next I started adding icons for the venue, hotel, my house, downtown and various other locales around town. I also labeled all the roads and highways and threw a compass on the map for good measure.

So without further ado, I present to you my super awesome map:

Forgive my constant "tooting my own horn"-ness. I keeps me motivated to continuing DIY-ing if I think I'm doing an awesome job on every project. Please don't judge.

This isn't the last you'll see of my map. Ya'll are gonna have to wait until the invitation suite is complete to see my map in action, in it's full glory.

Are you including a map with your invites? Did you do it yourself or have it commissioned?

  3. looks great! I am thinking of creating us a map too! I am worried that our guests will be confused with all the winding hills on route to our venue. Definately going to have to get on this!
